The Wheel Arrangement Option

The Wheel Arrangement field is used to provide a description of the wheel arrangement of the subject e.g. 4-6-2, 0-6-0T. The abbreviation NG denotes Narrow Gauge. Unlike the Country, Operator and Item fields, you may enter a search criterion which might form only part of the field. For example, to find all locomotives with the Pacific wheel arrangement, you could enter 4-6-2 and the system will search and return all instances of 4-6-2 in the Class field, irrespective of any other information in the field either before or after 4-6-2. If you wished to find any 8-coupled engine, you could enter -8- and the system will find entries such as 0-8-0, 2-8-0, 4-8-2. You can search for tank engines by entering simply t.
